I had chosen to read and look up on chapter five of the Bedford Book of Genres. This chapter focused on exploring topics and creating a research proposal for papers. Some of the information within the chapter, but there were a few interesting things that the chapter had suggested that I did not know about. One thing that the chapter had discussed which would help someone find a topic to research would be using a topic map to span over several key things within one topic. It was a new way of thinking about one topic in particular, and how this topic could connect to several other topics as well. Along with this, the chapter had also suggested opening up your mind and exploring all the things that you are most interested in on a daily basis. Additionally, it suggested picking a topic that means a significant amount to you or one that you genuinely find interesting at heart. My initial thoughts when typing a research paper was to find something that interests you but you did not know much about, but the paper had suggested finding something that did not stray far from your comfort zone. Along with this, it had suggest asking multiple questions in order to figure out what factual information you attempting to seek, something I had never previously done before when creating a paper. Asking the basic questions would allow you to go from a broad range to a much more specific-based question, allowing you to fully understand what information you were trying to seek.
